Concept

Sensory observation, also known as perception, is the process of obtaining, registering, interpreting, selecting and ordering sensory information.
The observation occurs when offering external stimuli to stimulus-specific receptors: the senses. Examples of stimuli include smells, heat and pressure.
The concept is limited to the function of the senses and any disorders of this function and does not include the interpretation of the observation in the brain.
Other building blocks are available for the hearing function and visual function.

Purpose

Senses are important for the patient to observe behavior in their environment.
Information on disorders in this sensory observation function is important in patient nursing and particularly in communication with the patient. Based on this information, healthcare can be adjusted to the patient’s limitations if needed.

Technical specifications in HL7v3 CDA and HL7 FHIR

To exchange information based on health and care information models, additional, more technical specifications are required.
Not every environment can handle the same technical specifications. For this reason, there are several types of technical specifications:

  • HL7® version 3 CDA compatible specifications, available through the Nictiz ART-DECOR® environment Artdecor.jpg
  • HL7® FHIR® compatible specifications, available through the Nictiz environment on the Simplifier FHIR Fhir.png
